Artists Empowering Small Business Entrepreneurs
In 2019, as part of preparing for our 60th Anniversary at Equity Showcase, we launched an initiative called, "Artists Empowering Small Business Entrepreneurs".
We asked ourselves 2 questions as part of our process to bring this new endeavour into being.
How can a creative team of innovative, imaginative, experienced and professional artists empower a variety of unique small business Entrepreneurs to further succeed financially and conceptually, while at the same time, adding to the artistic fabric of the city of Toronto?
How could we help facilitate and position the creative powers of Toronto's incredible city of artists to have further opportunities to create and facilities to create in?
The answers to these questions led to the creation of two new concepts.
The Art Club by Night would aim to transform a unique small business location into an environment where artists of all kinds would present their creative endeavours. We imagined a cool, vibrant, cozy, candlelit environment typical of clubs found in New York and Paris over the last several decades. A jazz performance one night, a poetry reading another, an evening of new scripts being read by actors, a showing of cool indie short films, and more.
The Artists Hub by Day would aim to encourage the same business to have an open-door policy for artists to gather, meet, and plan projects while finding a sense of home. In addition, we imagined the hub could also provide a great platform for artists such as painters to display their art.
Partnerships
As part of the process of implementing our, Artists Empowering Small Business Entrepreneurs, we have reached out to a variety of unique small businesses in Toronto; from cafes, tea rooms, restaurants, book stores, unique boutiques, galleries and more. We are excited about building a variety of relationships that will position us to further advance our objectives through the Art Club and Artists Hub.
Welcoming CRIMSON TEAS
One of Toronto's most unique small businesses located in the heart of the University of Toronto community and upper China Town at Spadina and College.
In 2020, Equity Showcase chose Crimson Teas, one of the rare tea houses in Toronto, as our first official partner to launch our Art Club and Artist Hub in the connection with our Artists Empowering Small Business Entrepreneurs initiative.
With special funding from Equity Showcase and a great creative team of design artists, we have positioned and helped reinvent Crimson Tea as a great little, Artists Hub by day and Art Club by night.
We were set to open in April of 2020 but due to Covid 19 and the city lockdown, we had to postpone our opening. Future openings in the fall and early winter were also postponed due to Covid. We are however thrilled about our future launch and looking forward to the city of Toronto getting more back to normal.
Check out what awaits you at Crimson Tea and take a look at our first Artist who will open the Art Club, the very talented, Kristian Gusho.
